Good Morning!

I am looking for some advise, I am new to the News Paper Industry, and would love to learn more about your methods and ideas. I am now an avid reader of your blog but am unsure how I can start to be as effective as you. I am working in a small market, about 14,000 people and we are the only paper (weekly). Can you give me some suggestions? Dave

You would be very surprised about the opportunities for co-op in small newspaper markets!
I pursue the small mom/pop businesses - we as newspaper sales executives can really help the small businesses with their co-op programs, researching co-op balances upfront if they want us to, pulling together co-op pre-approved ads, and handling the co-op billing and claims on the back end. These retailers are busy trying to run their businesses - if we handle the co-op process for our customer, we can earn their business and earn their trust! Talk about establishing a relationship with the customer!
Where to start depends on the area of the country you are in! Here in Texas, right now I am pursuing lawn & garden products - lawn mowers like Toro, Bush Hog, Dixon, Snapper, and others; pool and spa products like pool cleaning chemicals (Bio-Lab, Zodiac, Arch Chemicals) and pool cleaners like Hayward and Polaris. Air Conditioning is the biggest revenue generator for us! Lennox, Trane, Carrier, American Standard, and Goodman/Amana.
You really need to use a resource for co-op plan details, co-op pre-approved ads, and co-op tracking, co-op claims and co-op reporting. It's extremely difficult to do this job without a co-op recovery system. The one I use and would recomment for you is ReCas. Check out: www.recas.com
This will show you an introduction to the system. Then I would recommend you contact Tim Brennan, the sales executive. Tell him the Co-op Queen told you to contact him. Try it!
Let me know what you think about it!
Many thanks and good luck to you!
