I am a vendor looking to get involved with co-op advertising for our vitamin line to health food stores. Where do I start? How much is too much or not enough???

Usually co-op advertising programs are based on a percentage of the retailers purchases, whether it be 2,3,5, or 10% which accrues in the co-op advertising fund. Then when the product with illustration and logo are featured in the retailer's advertising, the mfr would reimburse 50% up to 100% of the cost of the advertising up to the amount accrued in the retailer's co-op fund, in the form of a credit memo or check, or sometimes free goods. If you are a start-up company a flat rate may be offered to help promote the product in the ad - still based on purchases by the retailer. Co-op coordinators at the newspapers help coordinate the program between the mfr and the advertiser, helping with co-op billing based on the ad rates and providing proof of advertising packages including tear sheets. We even help get the ad pre-approved before it runs!
We're here to help make the program a win-win for everybody involved!
This is exciting! How can I help you?
